Stevens Middle School Students’ Dollar Drive to Fight CancerStevens students and staff collected over $700, a record, in the “Bring a Dollar” event to add to annual local firefighters’ fundraising Stairclimb efforts to beat cancer.  This is the fifth year Stevens students have participated with local firefighters in the Seattle Columbia Center Climb.

Local firefighters collected dollar bills in their boots during a school assembly on January 6.  Participants at the assembly included guests from Mutsu City, Japan, the Port Angeles High School NJROTC Drill Team, the Elwha Welcome singers, The Stevens Middle School Jazz Band, and the Stevens Middle School Leadership students.

The highlight of this event has been the recent opportunity to include youth from our sister city, Mutsu City, Japan, who were visiting Port Angeles January 5 – 9. picture1 “Our goal is to provide a teachable moment,” said Rob Edwards.  “This exercise shows our students how to be a part of something larger, as well as how to make a difference in helping those battling leukemia and lymphoma.”

Our fourth and final climb of the season will be held February 5 at the fountain in downtown Port Angeles, and will include Peninsula College Athletics, Port Angeles Swim Club, and Klahhane Gymnastics,” continued Edwards.  “We will start at 4:30 p.m. and go until 5:30 p.m. We normally start at 4 but will adjust to accommodate PC Athletes coming from Sequim.”

Your Olympic Peninsula Firefighter Stairclimb team will be participating in the annual Firefighter Stairclimb of Seattle's Columbia Center on March 11, 2018, 69 flights of stairs and 1,356 steps to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. image2  Visit the Port Angeles Fire Department’s Scott Firefighter Stairclimb Facebook page to make an online donation:  https://www.facebook.com/Helppafirefightersbeatcancer.
