Stranger Incident at Roosevelt Elementary School

Stranger Incident at Roosevelt Elementary School

January 18, 2019

The District has become aware of details of a second luring event that occurred last week.  This incident concerned a Roosevelt Elementary student who was walking home after being dropped of by the school bus on 3rd Avenue.  The student had his headphones on and was listening to music.  A van pulled up alongside him and the student saw the man say something to him.  He did not hear what the man said, but from the way his mouth moved, he thought he said Do you want some candy?

The male was clean shaven, around 30 to 40 years of age, and was wearing a green and gray flannel shirt.  There were several boxes on the passenger seat.  The van was a newer model, around 2010, with no windows, and was clean.

The student reported what happened to his parent and police were contacted.

We encourage parents to discuss safety procedures and review stranger danger with their children. If your child has a stranger encounter, the police should be called immediately, and school administration should be notified.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s school office.

Thank you.
