Back to School Event

The annual Back to School Event is Saturday, August 17, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Jefferson Elementary Gym, located at 218 E 12th Street. This event features school supplies, back packs and other resources and information to prepare PASD families for the new school year.

2019-20 Parent Guide and Calendar

For the first time, Port Angeles School District is mailing a calendar for the 2019-20 school year to school families in early August. The calendar is formatted to include useful information for the coming school year, contact information and school policy for quick reference, and features photographs highlighting school events from the previous year. A supply of calendars will be available at school buildings for new families. The 2019-20 Parent Guide and Calendar is also available on the District’s website at www.portangelesschools.org under Calendars.

First Day of School for 2019-20

Tuesday, September 3 is the first day of school for grades 1 – 12 at all Port Angeles School District schools.

There will be Tuesday early release for elementary schools and Wednesday late start for middle school and high school beginning the first week of school. Please consult School Start and End Times on the District website at www.portangelesschools.org under For Students > Back to School Info for detailed information by school.

Kindergarten

Parents are encouraged if they haven’t already registered their child for Kindergarten, to please do so at once. The first day of school for Kindergarteners is Friday, September 6.

Dry Creek Elementary will have a Kindergarten Orientation event on Thursday, August 22 at 5 p.m.

School Offices Now Open

All school offices are now open for registration between the hours of 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Class lists will be posted on Wednesday, August 22 at all PASD elementary schools.

Port Angeles High School (PAHS)

For incoming ninth graders, please mark your calendar to attend Freshmen Welcome Day on Friday, August 30. Beginning with a welcome assembly in the PAHS auditorium at 9 a.m., this orientation event includes a tour of the campus, introduction to high school administrators, lunch and other activities including games.

Rider Days (Registration) are on the following days from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center:

  • Tuesday, August 20 - Seniors
  • Wednesday, August 21 – Juniors
  • Thursday, August 22 – Sophomores
  • Friday, August 23 - Freshmen

New students to the District should register at the high school as soon as possible. The office is now open Monday through Friday, and they do not need to wait until the registration day.

Stevens Middle School

Stevens Middle School registration takes place on Monday, August 19 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. During registration, students can pick up class schedules and other school information, have their school picture taken, sign computer use agreement forms, and make purchases including lunch tickets, insurance, school sweatshirts, ASB card and a yearbook. All students will have their picture taken at no cost for the yearbook. Picture Day is September 5, and Re-take Picture Day is October 14.

Fall sports packets must be turned in to the athletic secretary by August 26. (Practices begin for some sports the week of August 26.)

Back to School Night is Thursday, September 19 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

Vision/hearing screening is scheduled for September 20.

Health Services

Sports physicals are available at North Olympic Healthcare Network’s (NOHN) newly opened walk-in clinic, located at 933 E First Street. No appointment is needed, and the walk-in clinic is available five days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NOHN representatives will be at the high school registration events August 20 – 23 and will have registration packets on site. NOHN can bill insurance including Apple Health and Medicaid. A sliding fee scale is available for those without insurance. Services are available regardless of the ability to pay.

Food Services

PASD will continue to provide breakfast service to all students at no charge in all elementary schools. School meal prices remain the same as the past year. For more information and new prices on school meals, see Food Services under Departments on the District website.

Parents/guardians should fill out a Free/Reduced Meal application for the 2019-20 school year if they feel they may qualify. Applications are available at all school buildings and on the District website.

Friday Food Bag Program

School families can sign up for the Friday Food Bag program. The Port Angeles Food Bank, in collaboration with PASD, offers students in need a Friday Food Bag with a meal for the weekend at no cost. This service is available to students eligible for the Free/Reduced Meal Program. Sign-up forms for Friday Food Bags will be available at school buildings, and the program begins in mid-September.

Transportation

Parents, please take a moment to familiarize yourselves with Inclement Weather Notification information also available at this website. Please note: It is important that your student’s school office has your current contact information.

PASD Volunteers

Port Angeles School District greatly values and appreciates the time, talents and efforts of our volunteers. All school secretaries have volunteer packets in their offices for anyone wishing to volunteer in the classrooms or school buildings. Those wishing to volunteer must provide a valid driver’s license for a background check.

Fall School Tour

Take our Fall School Tour featuring Stevens Middle School on Friday, October 4, and co-sponsored by the PA Regional Chamber of Commerce. Meet at the Lincoln Center at 9:30 a.m. to take a school bus to the middle school campus, where student guides will take the group on a tour of classrooms and programs. The tour concludes with a complimentary lunch and bus ride back to the Lincoln Center. Call 360.565.3702 for more information and to reserve a spot on the tour.
