AmeriCorps Members Graduate from School District ServicePort Angeles, Wash. - On Saturday, July 15, AmeriCorps members graduated after completing a year of service in the Port Angeles School District during a ceremony held at the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center. 

AmeriCorps Program Coordinator Michell Gentry honored Port Angeles members for their service to district schools. 

Members who completed service are Teresa Hanson, Ceci Warfield, Charlie Belle, Mary Jacobs, Loren Johnsen, Mitchell Brown, Libbey Harp, Chris Edwards, Mariah Crowley, Jaedyn Joers, Ethan Arlt, Joe Zimmermann, and Grace Bauman.  

AmeriCorps members served a minimum of 1700 hours during a 10 1/2 month period from September 2016 through mid-July 2017, the equivalent of 40 hours or more per week.  

Members receive a living allowance and the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award available on successful completion of service. 

Port Angeles members were placed in the eight schools in the Port Angeles School District.  They provided academic and mentor support to students in grades kindergarten through high school who were identified as needing support. Additionally, members gave service in a variety of settings with community partners.

Sodexo Food Services partnered with the program to provide afterschool meals. Funding partners such as the Port Angeles Education Foundation, Albert Haller Foundation, and the Whatton Family Foundation provided matching funds for the AmeriCorps program.
