Return to Sports and Spectator Plan

The Port Angeles School District and Sequim School District believe there is a way to create a safety plan with limited spectators at competitions. With respect to the league's position, which voted not to allow spectators during athletic events, we have decided safely to move forward with a plan to bring back spectators.

Due to limits on the number of individuals allowed at a gathering, Port Angeles and Sequim School Districts must carefully plan competitions for all athletic programs. Careful planning includes adhering to the strict limits on the number of individuals allowed in a facility during competitions. The limitations on the number of individuals allowed in a facility for Phase 2 competitions are included below.

WIAA Season 1 for PASD runs from February 1 to March 20 and includes cross country, football, girls soccer, girls swim & dive, volleyball, and cheer. Season 2 sports and practices will run from March 15 to May 1 for baseball, golf, boys soccer, track & field, girls fast pitch, and girls tennis. Season 3 begins April 26 and ends on June 12 for basketball, boys swim & dive, boys tennis, wrestling, girls gymnastics, cheer, and cheer tryouts for the next year.

Seasons will be seven weeks long, and each sport has a set number of practices and academic requirements that each student-athlete must meet to compete. This year, there will be no statewide events taking place, and we will host inner league competitions to ensure a safe and local return to sports environment.

During the three Port Angeles and Sequim School Districts Conference seasons, should a school determine that they can safely plan for spectators to attend a competition, Port Angeles and Sequim School Districts will only allow parents/guardians/students at the home school to attend a competition. Athletic attendees of up to 200 people or 25 percent of a facility's capacity, whichever is lower, is allowed under current WIAA rules. The maximum occupancy rules include athletes, coaches, sideline cheer, drill team, musical performers, game administrators, and other team staff. The number of spectators will vary depending on the sport. Details on tickets for family and/or student spectators will be announced the week of February 15th.

The focus of Port Angeles and Sequim School Districts remain on providing athletes with safe opportunities to compete. Port Angeles and Sequim School Districts encourage all parents/guardians and community members to support their athletes by honoring spectator limitations.

Port Angeles and Sequim School Districts are working to secure means to stream events as an alternative to in-person viewing of athletic events. Individual school districts will communicate any streaming platforms or plans. We cannot wait until we are back in full spectator mode and will do everything we can to safely support interested community members to watch events and cheer on our teams.
