Port Angeles High School Health Care Center to Open January 9, 2018A new health care center located within Port Angeles High School is preparing to open its doors January 9, 2018.

The on-campus center would allow students, many of whom have no access to health care, to see a health care provider at school. Similar centers are already in operation in Port Townsend and Chimacum.

North Olympic Healthcare Network (NOHN) will be providing the care and maintaining medical records.

The goal of a health care center located within a school is to increase student access to healthcare services. Research demonstrates that a school health care center is associated with improvements in attendance and grade point average over time for at-risk students.

The concept for the health care center was originally outlined by the North Olympic Healthcare Network, Port Angeles School District officials and the Port Angeles Citizens Action Network, and was endorsed by the Clallam County commissioners in May 2017.  Port Angeles School Board members voted on the health care center proposal on June 8, 2017.

Hours of operation will initially be from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on every other Tuesday, but will be expanded if the need is there.

Students getting care must register with NOHN, which can be done through the school nurse or NOHN.  Registrations and permission packets need to be turned into the school nurse ahead of an appointment, if possible.  There are separate registration packets for students over and under 18 years of age.

Registration instructions and new patient applications are available on the Port Angeles School District website under For Students, then School-based health clinic.  Also available on the website is list of frequently asked questions with answers provided (FAQ).

North Olympic Healthcare Network is located at 240 West Front Street in Port Angeles.  For more information about North Olympic Healthcare Network, see their website at www.NOHN-PA.org.
