PAHS Men's Choir and Fostbræðer Icelandic Men's ChoirIn early May, the PAHS Men’s Choir traveled to Seattle for their performance with the premiere Men’s Choir from Iceland, Fostbræðer.  The Icelandic Choir has been in existence for 102 years and in that time, this is only their third tour to North America.  It was an honor for our students to be able to share the stage with this 70-voice choir.

For those of you who don’t know, Icelandic is one of the most difficult languages to learn.  Our students took on this task with aplomb.  These young men were interactive with the Icelanders – including speaking to them in Icelandic (greetings, introductions, etc.)  Our men sang as their own choir and then joined Fostbræðer in two songs all in Icelandic.  They received two standing ovations from the crowd of Seattleites.

This was not a competition and yet PAHS Men’s Choir won!  They won the hearts of Icelanders and Seattleites.  They learned a respect for people and their language.  This was a meeting of two cultures, amateur and professional, musicians alike!  Our students brought their best game and made a name for Port Angeles!  The gentlemen of the Icelandic Choir pinned each of our students as members of their choir and gifted them with books, banners and then gifted them with the song that they sing for members of the choir only.

I have been teaching for 33 years.  I have prepared students for many musical performances.  This performance is nearest and dearest to my heart!  I will never forget this experience.
