PAHS Band Student to BostonKinnear Pierzchala has been selected to be one of only two high school students from the state of Washington to play with the John Philip Sousa National High School Honors Band in Boston, MA this summer.  Only 120 high school students are selected for this distinction.

Pierzchala, a junior at Port Angeles High School, plays various low brass instruments, including bass trombone, sousaphone, euphonium, trombone, baritone and tuba in the Port Angeles High School band program, under the direction of Douglas Gailey.  To audition, Pierzchala submitted an audio recording of him performing a Mozart Concerto on the bass trombone.

The conductor of the 2018 John Philip Sousa National High School Honors Band will be Col. Jason Fettig, Director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band of Washington, D.C.  Members of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst Marching Band and its staff under the direction of Dr. Timothy Todd Anderson and Mr. Thom Hannum will serve respectively as clinicians, staff and coaches for the event.  The high school students will play a performance at historic Faneuil Hall.

After he graduates from high school next year, Pierzchala is interested in a future career in precision welding.
