PASD Social Distancing Support

Dear PASD families,

First, we apologize for the late notice last night regarding closing school today. There were several circumstances that changed the decision. Mainly, it was learning of Governor Inslee’s intent to impose additional restrictions across our state. To protect our staff, students, and community, we closed schools. We are working on establishing days/times for students to pick-up personal belongings. More details to come on that matter.

Second, we are amid an unprecedented time. It is a time when we must increase our focus on the health and safety of our community. Last Friday, Governor Inslee announced his Executive Order to close all schools in the State of Washington to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Port Angeles Schools will be closed beginning today, March 16, 2020. This closure will remain in effect through April 24th. Port Angeles School District Administration Offices will remain open during the closure. School offices will remain open until further notice.

Third, our team has been working round the clock this weekend to address issues from the closure. As new information surfaced this weekend, our plans changed and then changed again. It has reached a point where it makes more sense to hit the pause button and allow time for state officials to provide further guidance. We recommend looking at this week as a “spring break” of sorts. There will be no instructional learning support this week. In the coming days, we anticipate receiving guidance and direction around our responsibilities to staff, students, and families. We ask for your flexibility as we navigate this six-week closure. We will send further information regarding learning resources as we know more.

Lastly, we recognize that schools provide vital support to our community beyond education; we know this closure will have a major impact on our families. We will work to minimize those impacts as best we can. To support our community through this transition, we will work on the following:

We will be providing free meals to students during the closure. Beginning Tuesday, March 17th sack lunch and breakfasts will be available to children ages 2-18 free of charge. The child must be present to receive the meals. Meals will be served daily from 11:30am to 1:00pm at the following sites:
