“What My Home Means to Me” Grand Prize Winners Announced

“What My Home Means to Me” Entries on DisplayPort Angeles, Wash. - The Port Angeles Association of Realtors & Affiliates announced its grand prize winners in the 37th “What My Home Means to Me” Essay & Drawing Contest for third grade students at an awards breakfast held on Wednesday, April 19 for class winners and their teachers.

Dry Creek Elementary student Gryphon Shields is the first place grand prize winner and Claire Smith, a Hamilton Elementary student, is second place grand prize winner.  Anna Weed from Jefferson Elementary is the third grand prize winner. 

The first through third place winners in each class (listed below) receive gift cards to Swain’s General Store for $50, $30, and $20 respectively.  First place winners from the classes are then judged, and the first through third place grand prize winners are given gift cards for $100, $75, and $50, respectively.

“Children write an essay on what their home means to them and then draw a picture that corresponds. ‘Home’ is wherever they happen to live,” said Coordinator Doc Reiss. 

Fourteen third-grade classes participated in this year’s event.

Additionally, Marshall Pettit, a student in Mrs. Anderson’s class at Hamilton Elementary is featured on the cover of the Peninsula Daily News insert for the “What My Home Means to Me Contest.”
