Ruckus Wireless Setup and Use

Ruckus Wireless

Wireless access is now available throughout the district.  If you cannot access wireless from anywhere you need to please let us know by creating a helpdesk ticket describing your needs.  Create a helpdesk ticket by sending an email to hdesk@portangelesschools.org

There are now two wireless networks available:

Connecting a Mobile Device to Wi-Fi

The process of connecting a mobile device to our network will be very similar to a pc. Depending what type of device you have (Apple which uses the iOS or a variation of the Android OS) will determine how you access your wifi options. Please note that your device may vary from these instructions somewhat.

Apple iOS

Located on your iphone or ipad desktop will be an icon similar to the one pictured on the right. This is the settings icon for your device. You will click this and proceed to the settings menu.

In the settings menu, you will see an option for Wi-Fi. Click this to proceed to network selection. In the Wi-Fi menu (pictured to the right) you should see a "Guest" network and a "PASD" network. You will select Guest. Please see the additional instructions below for how to connect to the PASD network.

Android OS

Connecting to the wifi in the district on your Android is similar to connecting anywhere else with a few additional steps. Access your settings menu by "pulling down" the top of the screen or accessing it through apps. You can choose which wi-fi to connect to by press and holding on the wifi icon (see image to right). This will present you with a list of networks to connect to. You will select Guest and tap connect. Please see additional instructions below on how to finish the connection.

Guest Network

This network is for:
  1. Student users on non-district equipment such as a laptop or smart device
  2. Faculty with district or non-district equipment (this network is used for onboarding)

For a student or guest, this network requires a guest pass. Once a student brings in their signed internet use agreement they will receive a guest pass from a designated staff member.

Faculty will be prompted for their district credentials the first time they connect. Once authenticated the user will be transitioned to the "PASD" network.

PASD Network

This network is used for faculty users or student users on district-owned equipment. Staff using their own equipment  will connect to this network after onboarding (authenticating) through guest. You will first need to connect to guest before you will be able to conenct to PASD.

Accessing the Guest and/or PASD networks

From a Windows Computer

In the lower right hand corner of your screen (by the clock) click the small network icon. It will often look like a rising stack of towers ad or a series of waves adds. Select the "Guest" network from the list. This network will have ! next to because it is an open network.

Once connected, open a browser if it does not open automatically (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, etc.). You may be prompted with a certificate warning. Select Continue to this Website (Not Recommended) to proceed to the Ruckus onboarding.

If you are a district employee: You will click "Register Device". The next steps will explain how to connect from this point.

If you are a student or district guest: You will click the "Guest Access" button. This will take you to a page that will request a "Guest Pass". You can acquire these passes one of two ways:

  • If you are a student, you will have to sign an Internet Use agreement form, and receive your unique pass from a staff member.
  • District visitors can acquire short-term passes from most building office professionals or building techs.

District Faculty: After clicking "Register Device" you will be prompted for your district credentials. This is the same as your email or computer login. First Initial + Last Name, and the password you selected.
After entering your credentials you will be prompted to run the Prov.exe setup (this should attempt to auto-run but if not follow the prompts until it installs). If Prov.exe is able to run you will automatically be transfered to the PASD wireless network.

Note: If the installer is unable to run, you will have to manually connect to the PASD network. In the image to the right you can see a link directly below the light blue bar to manually connect. Click the link and proceed to the next screen.

Manually Setting Up PASD Network: If Prov.exe did not run and connect you automatically you will need to copy the network key (see image right) and use that to connect. After copying the network key, click your wireless connection icon in the tray, and select the PASD network. This will prompt you for a key. Paste the key you copied into this box and click ok.
