Levy News
February 14, 2017, 8:00 p.m.:
Ballots counted to date for the February 14, 2017 special election show the Port Angeles School District four-year replacement educational programs and operation levy has passed successfully with unofficial results showing 5,413 yes votes and 2,415 no votes for a 69.15% passage rate.  The levy will be certified on February 24, 2017.

This Levy is not a new tax.
It is a renewal of the tax approved by voters in 2015.  The current Levy is set to expire December 31, 2017.

This Levy bridges the gap in our funding of education.
This Levy funds 22% of our school district’s daily operating budget. State and federal dollars fund 78% of the day-to-day operations.

This Levy supports important school functions.
Levy dollars will continue to fund reasonably low class sizes, student transportation, athletics, music programs, extracurricular activities, special education, vocational programs, highly capable programs, technology and maintenance.

This Levy is for a fixed amount.
$9,100,000 will be collected on all taxable property within the Port Angeles School District in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. The levy amount collected does not increase after it is set in place.

This Levy has a tax rate estimated to be close to the rate we currently pay.
For 2018, it’s estimated tax payers will pay $3.30 per $1,000 of assessed property; for 2019, $3.26 per $1,000; for 2020, $3.23 per $1,000; and 2021, $3.20 per $1,000.

What do taxpayers pay now?
In 2016, taxpayers paid $3.20 per $1,000 of assessed property.  (At the time of the election in 2015, the rate was estimated to be $3.26.)

To estimate how much you’d pay:
Locate your assessed property value. Divide it by 1,000. Next multiply this amount by the estimated tax rate.

Example:
2018 estimate
$200,000 home / $1,000 x $3.30 = $55 per month; $660 annual

2016 actual
$200,000 home / $1,000 x $3.20 = $53 per month; $640 annual
