Port Angeles, Wash
. – This past weekend 161 Port Angeles High School orchestra students traveled to Bellingham to participate in The American String Teachers Association Washington State Chapter (W-ASTA) /Western Washington University (WWU) State Orchestra Festival held at the WWU Performing Arts Center.
“All three PAHS groups – Chamber Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra and Concert Orchestra - had great performances,” Director Ron Jones said, “earning praise from the adjudicators.”
Competing with groups from all across the state, the Chamber Orchestra placed first in their division. The Symphonic Orchestra received second place in the large group division, and the Concert Orchestra was third in the all-freshman division.
“Overnight travel with a group this large can be challenging,” Jones added, “but these kids made it easy by doing everything asked of them without complaint or question. Next stop ... Carnegie Hall!”
Orchestras will travel to New York and play at Carnegie Hall during spring break.
