Port Angeles, Wash. – Governor Jay Inslee has declared March 14 through 18, 2016 as Classified Public School Employee Week in Washington State, continuing a tradition begun in 1975 by the Public School Employees of Washington to recognize the contributions of educational support professionals who work in our schools in support of student learning and success.

“We have an amazing classified support staff,” Superintendent of Port Angeles Schools Marc Jackson said. “The quality work they each day in support of our students, teachers and administrators is immeasurable. Thank you to our classified employees for their outstanding work.”

The Port Angeles School District (PASD) presently has 243 classified school employees.

In concerti with Governor Inslee, the PASD Board of Directors passed a resolution honoring classified employees at its March 9, 2017 board meeting. Resolution No. 1617-05 reads as follows:

WHEREAS, classified school employees in the Port Angeles School District are involved in nearly every aspect of education, including maintaining school buildings and grounds, providing secretarial and clerical assistance, preparing and serving meals, providing safe transportation, keeping school facilities clean and orderly, assisting in the classroom, providing a secure environment, and many other specialized services; and

WHEREAS, these dedicated individuals deserve recognition and thanks for the outstanding work they are doing for this state, their communities, and the children enrolled in Washington’s public schools; and

WHEREAS, there are nearly 220 classified school employees working with and helping children in the Port Angeles School District; and

WHEREAS, classified school employees are instrumental in fulfilling the state’s paramount duty to educate children; and

WHEREAS, by supporting the learning environment, classified school employees are crucial partners with teachers, parents, and administrators, and the Port Angeles School District Board of Directors;

NOW THEREFORE, the Port Angeles School District Board of Directors does hereby proclaim March 13 through March 17, 2017, as Classified School Employee Week in the Port Angeles School District, and urges all citizens to join in this special observance.

Thank you, PASD classified employees!
