Retirees Honored by School Board with Proclamation

Retirees Honored

Port Angeles, Wash. – Representatives from the Clallam County School Retirees’ Association (CCSRA), Gary Gleason and Lora Brabant, and all school district retirees, were honored by the Port Angeles School District Board of Directors at its meeting last night, March 9, 2017.

Gleason and Brabant pledged the Association’s continued support of teachers through its grants program.

Superintendent Marc Jackson and Board President Joshua Jones thanked Gleason and Brabant for their service as teachers and active retirees.

Port Angeles School District Resolution NO. 1617-04 was passed unanimously in recognition of all school retirees, as follows:

WHEREAS, the Port Angeles School District recognizes school employees who have retired from active teaching, administration, or a specialized field of the teaching profession; and

WHEREAS, school retirees educate and assist retirees in meeting the special challenges retirement brings, and works to improve their general welfare; and

WHEREAS, school retirees aid in advancing education by supporting high educational standards; and

WHEREAS, school retirees promote group and individual involvement in charitable projects and activities, sponsors scholarships, and maintains interest and participates in educational and community activities; and

WHEREAS, school retirees support and encourage retired educators to remain active in the education profession through volunteer activities associated with learning;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of Directors does hereby proclaim the week of March 13 through March 19, 2017 as School Retirees Appreciation Week in the Port Angeles School District, and urges all citizens to join in this observance.

In a letter from Mike Boring, executive director of the Washington State School Retirees’ Association, to Superintendent Marc Jackson, Boring said, “The Washington State School Retirees’ Association continues to engage in lobbying efforts with the Legislature to protect and improve retirement pensions and benefits for all present and future school retirees, both certificated and classified.”

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee also urged all people to join him in this special observance of School Retirees Appreciation Week in a proclamation to citizens of the state:

WHEREAS, the Washington State School Retirees’ Association (WSSRA) recognized all retired school employees; and

WHEREAS, the WSSRA educated and assists retirees in meeting the special challenges retirement brings, and works to improve their general welfare; and

WHEREAS, the WSSRA aids in advancing education by supporting high educational standards; and

WHEREAS, the WSSRA promotes group and individual involvement in charitable projects and activities, sponsors scholarships, and maintains interest and participation in educational and community activities; and
WHEREAS, the WSSRA support and encourages retired educators to remain active in the education profession through volunteer activities associated with learning;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jay Inslee, Governor of the state of Washington, do hereby proclaim March 13-March 19, 2017 as School Retirees Appreciation Week in Washington, and I urge all people in our state to join me in this special observance.
