Port Angeles, Wash.
– Jefferson Elementary students, Javen DeScala and Lily Halberg, were honored by Principal Joyce Mininger and School Board President Joshua Jones at the February 23 board meeting as Port Angeles School District Students of the Month. DeScala and Halberg, both in sixth grade, were selected by Jefferson staff as part of a district-wide program honoring exemplary students during the 2016-17 school year.
Principal Mininger shared the following comments about the students from their former teachers:
Kindergarten: Javen is a very bright student who always has relevant information to add.
1st Grade: I appreciate Javen’s thoughtful nature and inquisitive mind.
2nd Grade: Javen’s excellent work is a reflection of his great attitude and effort.
3rd Grade: Javen offers wonderful insight in class discussions and is a good citizen that the other students enjoy being around.
4th grade: I thoroughly enjoyed having him in my class - he is a very capable, responsible and respectful student.
5th Grade: Javen’s sincerity and willingness to participate with questions and comments helps our class be a community of learners.
Kindergarten: Lily is such a sweet girl who is very capable and is motivated to learn.
1st Grade: Lily is a fantastic role model in class and is a great friend to all of her classmates.
2nd Grade: Lily is eager to share ideas in class and has been doing a great job.
3rd Grade: Lily’s attitude and work ethic have a very positive effect on our class. She is a good thinker and has so many creative ideas.
4th grade: Lily is an absolute job to have in the classroom. She comes to school with that shy smile on her face and ready to learn.
5th Grade: Lily works hard, is kind to others, and works well in groups. She has a bright outlook and is cheerful and motivated.
