Roosevelt Students Chosen as Students of the MonthPort Angeles, Wash. – Roosevelt Elementary students, Zackary Pierce and Gabrielle Montana, were honored by Principal Michelle Olsen, Assistant Principal Jennifer Van De Wege and School Board President Joshua Jones at last nights’ board meeting as Port Angeles School District Students of the Month.  Pierce and Montana, both in sixth grade, were selected by Roosevelt staff as part of a district-wide program honoring exemplary students during the 2016-17 school year.

“Zackary is an excellent student, understands the value of study, always well behaved, and knows how to respect his classmates and others,” Van De Wege said. “He follows all school and classroom expectations of being a respectful, responsible learner, and interacting with others in a safe and kind way. He is a leader in classroom activities and a great role model as a classroom citizen. He is someone who is always willing to lend a hand with younger students. He is appreciated by both students and staff at Roosevelt!”

“Gabby is a reflective learner, which is perhaps one of the most important characteristics of an effective student,” Van De Wege continued. “She is capable of critical thinking, actively challenging both herself and others. She has volunteered in the school Holiday Food Drive for the past two years and at our first annual Family Math Night. In addition, she has a passion to protect the environment. In fifth grade, she designed posters to hang in the halls to encourage students to pack low trash lunches.”
